An Integrative Approach for Treating Sexual Addiction

This workshop serves as an introduction to the IATSA Model (© Jones, 2023) for treating sexual addiction and looks at the key building blocks used to successfully treat sex and pornography addiction. As the name implies, this in an integrative model which draws from outstanding work and theory from a number of recognised specialists in the sex addiction field including Alex Katehakis Ph.D, Dr Eddie Capparucci LPC, C-CSAS (Inner Child Model and Dr Allan Schore (Affect Regulation Theory).

We will take a deep dive into:

• Treating Sexual Addiction
• Trauma and Internal Working Model
• Affect Regulation Theory

And the 4 steps we use to generate successful outcomes:

1. Comprehensive Assessment

2. Attention Training; Group Therapy; 3rd Wave CBT’s

3. Inner Child Treatment Program

4. Continued Relational Psychotherapy

In exploring the IATSA Model (© Jones, 2023) - this workshop shows participants how, when correctly applied, the integrative treatment model can deliver a higher ratio of successful and lasting client outcomes.

Objectives of the workshop

• Examine the components of the IATSA Model (© Jones, 2023) and how to apply them in sexual addiction treatment.
• An in-depth look at the interventions used to treat sexual addiction.
• Neuroscience behind sexual addiction
• The impact and consequences of pornography addiction.
• Explore how the Inner Child Model heals trauma.
• Examine the role of the ‘right brain’ in successful treatment.
• An in-depth look at Dr Allan Schore’s Affect Regulation Theory and its importance for achieving long-term recovery.

Who is the workshop for ?

Practicing clinicians, counsellors and associated professionals working within or having an interest in addiction therapy. This workshop  is particularly relevant to sex & porn addiction however can be adapted to wider types of addiction treatment including substance abuse and alcohol.

How long does it take and how do I attend?

This is a 1/2 day, dynamic workshop, normally delivered via Zoom and built around a timed morning session. The course starts promptly at 10am and finishes no later than 2pm.

How many people attend the course?

The course is for a maximum of 10 individuals

How much does it cost?

The course fee is £199.00* payable in advance at the point of booking.

Using the Inner Child Model as a treatment therapy

Addictions are responsible for individuals engaging in harmful behaviours that result in erosion of self-worth, destruction of relationships, and in some cases, legal consequences.

Many techniques and programs designed to treat addiction are ineffective and leave individuals who have tried to quit numerous times, frustrated and hopeless. We know because we see it every day in our private practices. 

We help individuals escape the stranglehold of these addictive behaviours by beginning with a simple question – "Why does addiction have a stronghold on my life"? The answer lies within our Inner Child.

The Inner Child Model  was originally created by Dr Eddie Capparucci LPC, C-CSAS. This workshop expands upon this to examine the road to recovery from addiction by examining childhood based on three factors:

• Unresolved childhood pain points 
• Inability to sit and process emotional discomfort
• Being emotionally undeveloped

In exploring the ICM - our workshop offers a unique and interactive treatment approach that empowers individuals by helping them understand why they engage in addictive behaviours.

Objectives of the workshop

• Define the components of the ICM and how to apply them in addiction treatment
• An in-depth look at all 11 inner children the model comprises
• Explain how the inner child impacts addiction with real life client case studies
• Present therapeutic interventions to connect with the inner child
• Discuss the six core steps necessary for successful implementation of the ICM

Outcomes

This knowledge allows clients to stay one step ahead of their addiction by becoming aware of the core emotional triggers that activate their Inner Child. 

The Inner Child Model empowers your client with the ability to stay one step ahead of their addiction by:

• Identifying when the Inner Child becomes activated
• Engaging with the emotional pain the Inner Child is experiencing
• Realising the emotions being experienced may not be accurate to the current circumstance
• Evaluating the emotions using rational thinking to determine the difference between what you feel vs. what is real 
• Based on these insights, make a healthy choice
